The 30th anniversary of Banned Books Week is coming up soon, it starts on September 30th - October 6th. I love promoting Banned Books Week, this is my third year participating in it and I almost missed it because of the reading and blogging funk I’ve been in. If you want to participate on something different and fun to show some support for your freedom to read, there’s this thing called the Banned Books Virtual Read-Out where you can submit a video of yourself reading and talking about a book that’s been in the banned books list to this website. They will feature the videos on the Banned Books Week Youtube channel. Your video can be no longer than two minutes and you must have a youtube/gmail account in order to submit it. It’s very easy to create one if you don’t already have one, just go to ALA website for easy directions on how to do it and for more information. If you’re camera shy like me you can make a video montage, I think I will try to make a video though which is really hard for me because I hate my voice, so we’ll see how that turns out. If you want check out a list of books that have been banned or challenged just click here and to the left of the page you will have the option to see the list of books by decade, year or author name. Here’s another list in alphabetical order.
