A Letter to My Younger Blogging Self

love-a-thon

Mini Challenge #4: Write a letter to your earlier blogging self either to give advice about things I should have done and things I probably shouldn’t have.

Here’s Mine:

Dear Cynthia,

I know you just started and you’re very new at this but don’t forget that people want to know more about what the book is about so maybe think about adding the synopsis on your reviews? And it probably won’t hurt to add the little details like, name, publisher and release date. Also you know that feature you’ve been doing about movies, it’s not going to continue much longer because soon you’ll run out of good movies to watch, so maybe try something else.. like music. Don’t get discourage when your comments start to decrease, always remember what you’re doing this for, it’s to spread the love of books and share your enthusiasm for them. You will meet some great friends because of this New Year’s Resolution so keep it up, you’ll also have wonderful bookish events that you’ll be attending and new authors you’ll love and get to know really well.

You might want to also know now that wasting precious time on those books you’re really not into is probably not a good idea when there are soooo many great ones out there waiting for you to pick them up. You’ll be kicking yourself in the butt for not listening to that one.  Also, don’t beat yourself up and feel guilty for taking a break from blogging every now and then, you have a wonderful loving family that needs your attention too.

Always remember, it’s all about the books and read what you love!!!

Love,

Your Future Self

  1. Great letter - my younger blogging self could've used some of this advice.

(Also, I still need to tell myself to put the books I'm not liking down.)

  3. This is a fantastic letter! I think not getting discouraged is such a huge thing! Getting burnt out and letting little stuff get to you can be disheartening so staying positive is always great advice. Awesome job!

  4. I loved this letter Cynthia! Especially with the discouragement! Sometimes it's great to take a break from blogging and just clear your head!

  5. Great letter! It's so important to take breaks, but it can be really hard to do with a blog...and then you end up burnt out. Thanks for sharing :)

  8. I love this letter! I'm learning the lesson about not that great books right now. Had to send my first negative review to a publisher too...shook the nerves a tad.
