One hour to rewrite the past . . .
For seventeen-year-old Emerson Cole, life is about seeing what isn’t there: swooning Southern Belles; soldiers long forgotten; a haunting jazz trio that vanishes in an instant. Plagued by phantoms since her parents’ death, she just wants the apparitions to stop so she can be normal. She’s tried everything, but the visions keep coming back.
So when her well-meaning brother brings in a consultant from a secretive organization called the Hourglass, Emerson’s willing to try one last cure. But meeting Michael Weaver may not only change her future, it may change her past.
Who is this dark, mysterious, sympathetic guy, barely older than Emerson herself, who seems to believe every crazy word she says? Why does an electric charge seem to run through the room whenever he’s around? And why is he so insistent that he needs her help to prevent a death that never should have happened?(From EgmontUSA)
What else can I say about Hourglass besides mentioning that it was BRILLIANT!!! I also want to scream out the world that I KNEW IT! I just knew it would be, I've been following Myra McEntire since I got on twitter a couple of years ago and when I read the premise for Hourglass I had a feeling that it was going to be one of those books that you look forward to the most and it actually lives up to all your expectations, and I wasn't wrong.
Myra added a bit of science, some amazing supernatural abilities, two really hot love interests both with their own individual qualities, and a kick ass heroine into this really unique story and made it complete bliss. I adored the main character Emerson, she was fierce, snarky and soooo hilarious but also had such a great heart and of course flaws like any other normal teenager but she wins you over from the very beginning. You really can't help but love Emerson, she's so strong and supportive even after all the grief and pain that she's gone through most of her life, I loved her! Also if you love your hot boys in YA novels this one has more than enough holy sweet hotness! We get Michael and Kaleb, they both cause you that weak-in-the-knees-may-drop-your-book-from-swooning feeling, they are both very different from each other but definitely tempting. Myra has made it very difficult for me to pick a team on this one.
The story just kept surprising me over and over, I was unable to predict any of it and I am soo thankful that it just kept me guessing and wondering what Myra would throw at me next, I love it when I can't figure out what's going to happen. This is one of those books that just keep you with a huge smile on your face while you're reading it, just loving it the whole way through and the warm and fuzzies that it makes you feel. Of course until you get to the intense scenes that just shock you. I love the way Myra described everything with perfectly rich descriptions that made it easier to picture everything and connect with the characters. I don't want to spoil the plot in the story because the unpredictability is one of the best parts of it but just know that it was creatively done, very mind blowing and exciting that you forget to eat because you don't want to stop reading. In a genre over saturated with werewolves and vampires, Hourglass is like a fascinating breath of fresh air that will make you want more and yearn for that sequel right away, definitely recommend it!
